Air Seychelles thrills 254 schoolchildren with full aircraft experience |18 November 2017

A group of 254 children were given the full Air Seychelles experience yesterday as part of a fun-filled educational tour of the airline’s jet aircraft at Seychelles International Airport.

 Hailing from La Misère, Glacis, English River and Les Mamelles elementary schools, the children visited Air Seychelles to learn more about the world of aviation for a transportation project on their curriculum.

 After arriving at the airport, the kids were taken on a guided tour of an Airbus A320 by Air Seychelles line maintenance manager Darrel Woodruff, following which they boarded its larger cousin, the A330, where they had a chance to experience the inflight products and services of Air Seychelles.

 Apart from learning about these two aircraft types, the children were able to try out the inflight entertainment systems onboard the A330, and experience the dining service when they were served a chicken and pasta Economy Class dish for lunch. In addition, the highest academic achievers from each school were “upgraded” to Business Class where they could experience the lie-flat seats.

 The children were looked after by a team of two jet fleet pilots ‒ Juan Romain and Bertrand Mein ‒ and nine Air Seychelles cabin crew including Sheryl Azemia, Kethra Quatre, Yanick Comettant, Ted Madeleine, Elsa-Marie Laurence, Ferley Genevieve, Charlotte Morel led by Terence Vielle, cabin manager, and Charlotte Fruncillo Lepathy, cabin senior, as well as 20 teachers from their respective schools.

 Roy Kinnear, chief executive of Air Seychelles, said: “It was a pleasure welcoming children from across Seychelles on a special tour of our aircraft today (yesterday). As the national airline, we take immense pride in making a meaningful difference to the lives of our youth, especially as part of an educational programme. We would also like to thank our close partner, the Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority, for supporting this school visit”.

 Josie Michaud Payet, manager of corporate social responsibility at Air Seychelles, said: “We love bringing the world of aviation to life for our local schoolchildren and are delighted to have been able to host more than 200 students in just one day. For many of our youngest visitors, it was their first time inside an aircraft, and their excitement was visible to everyone. We hope they take away some lovely memories of their tour.” 

The children were also provided with Air Seychelles gift bags at the end of their tour to take home as a souvenir of the day out.
