Ephelia Landscape Team wins Cap Ternay raft race |21 November 2017

The Seychelles National Parks Authority (SNPA) and Global Vision International (GVI) organised their sixth Cap Ternay raft race last Saturday at the Baie Ternay lagoon.

Nine teams including the organisers themselves took part in the race.

There were other teams from Constance Ephelia Resort as well as from Cable & Wireless, Four Seasons, with some teams taking part with three rafts.

It was the Ephelia Landscape Team who won first prize which is a dinner for four sponsored by the hotel itself and a cup. Another team from Ephelia also won the prize for the most creative raft. They used empty pet bottles to create their raft, which came out as a work of art.

SNPA came out second and also won a cup.

The main objectives of the event were to raise funds for the President’s Village at Port Glaud, raise the visibility of the Baie Ternay Marine Park and encourage re-cycling as the rafts were home-made from recycled materials.

Invitations were sent very early to faithfuls and first time participants.

The race itself contributes towards other fundraising activities that GVI undertakes during the year for President’s Village. The raft race is one of them.

“Our research partner GVI has its own programme where it works in close collaboration with the Village. We jointly organised the race to support it in its charitable cause,” said Isabelle Ravinia of SNPA.

The Baie Ternay Marine National Park is managed by SNPA which makes sure that people do not fish in the park as it is a protected area.

“One of the objectives of this activity is for people to learn more about the marine park and become aware of its existence. This activity is not only for locals but for overseas viewers also as lots of pictures, videos are sent overseas or posted online as there are many foreigners who also take part in the race,” said Ms Ravinia.
