Eight graduate as church leaders |22 November 2017

Eight Seychellois leaders of a rapidly growing local evangelical church have been ordained as deacons and pastors alongside 100 of their colleagues from Africa, in a colourful ceremony held in Nairobi.

The volunteers have already been serving the Seychelles chapter of the global Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) which has seven branches here, that are headed by Pastor Terence Payet, who accompanied the team to the Kenyan capital.

The graduates were escorted from here by an overseer from the RCCG megachurch's Lagos headquarters, and got their echelons on Sunday November 19.

Three were ordained as pastors while five were consecrated as deacons or deaconesses during the event, which took place at the impressive Catholic University of East African, located in the posh Karen area of Nairobi.

“The leaders were chosen through the guidance of the Holy Spirit and their nomination was vetted by a regional committee of the 16-country church abroad,” one of the graduates told the media, requesting anonymity.

“I am sure their input in the country’s church leadership will make a big difference, because as the Bible says, ‘The harvest is ready but workers are few’,” said a pastor at the ceremony.
