School wardens boost knowledge in road safety |24 November 2017

Over 30 school wardens followed a half-day road safety information, education and awareness session yesterday as part of activities to mark Road Safety Week.

Organised by the Road Safety Advisory Committee the session aims to boost the wardens’ knowledge and understanding in road safety and highway code, equip them with tips and skills to better handle difficult drivers and manage emergencies on the road in order to better protect children crossing the road.

Ellga Andre, the senior information & communication officer at the Department of Land Transport and coordinator of the training, said it is important to continuously strengthen and boost the skills of the wardens and valorise their work.

“They are on the road everyday and they face challenges too so it is also good to hear their concerns and challenges in order to better address them,” Mrs Andre  said.

She added that it is also part of the newly launched road safety policy to step up road safety education in the schools and equipping school wardens is only part of this process.
