Oil painter and sculptor Alcide Libanotis is currently showcasing his art works in an exhibition under the theme ‘The art of variety’.

The exhibition, organised by the National Arts Council (Nac) was officially opened Wednesday evening at the Boat House restaurant by a member of the board of Nac, John Stravens.

“It is an important month for art in Seychelles; art allows all artists to showcase their identity. The purpose of works of art may be to communicate ideas, such as spiritually, or philosophically motivated art; to create a sense of beauty; to explore the nature of perception; for pleasure among others,” he said.

Also present at the opening were the chief executive of Nac Jimmy Savy, the owner of Boat House restaurant Françoise Mancienne, among other guests.

The exhibition comprises paintings and sculptures demonstrating different varieties of work by Mr Libanotis.

“I have been doing such art work for the past 20 years, and today I am still involved in this industry. Through this exhibition, I want to showcase different varieties of art work, with different materials that I use. All my paintings and sculptures tell a story, that people can interpret in different ways,” he said.

Mr Libanotis’ brother, Georges Libanotis, also has some wonderful art works on display in the exhibition

The exhibition will remain open for one week.
