UAE celebrates 46th National Day |04 December 2017

On the occasion of the 46th anniversary National Day of the United Arabs Emirates (UAE), a ceremony was held last Friday at the Savoy Resort & Spa, Beau Vallon.

December 2, 1971 marked the establishment of the Emirates, the same year UAE’s foreign policy was grounded in wisdom, moderation, justice and advocacy.

During the ceremony both nations’ national anthem was played followed by an address from the chargé d’Affaires of the United Arab Emirates Ahmed Saeed Alneyadi and Designated Minister Macsuzy Mondon who is also the Minister for Local Government and Home Affairs.

H.E Alneyadi hailed the bilateral relations between our two friendly countries. “These relations found their roots in the principles of cooperation and mutual respect and evolved into a strategic partnership between the two countries and peoples over recent years. The mutual visits of the leaders of the two countries and the ever growing volume of commercial and economic bear witness to the strong bilateral ties our countries share in various field,” he said.

He said the UAE National Day is a glorious occasion for UAE citizens to celebrate their belonging to this land and express their pride in the wise leadership of Dubai and Emirates, which forever stands ready to invest in its people’s human capital, placing its citizens at the top of its priorities to achieve distinction, stability and sustainable development.

Minister Mondon said the bilateral relationship which exists between Seychelles and UAE is one which has flourished over the years and so many tangible results that speak volumes.

She noted the various investments recently made by the UAE government to the Seychelles such as the inauguration of the new Seychelles Family Hospital on Ile Perseverance which exemplifies the standards that we want to aim for in the health care system, three new vessels to the National Drugs Enforcement Agency (NDEA) now Anti Narcotic ….which plays a vital role in ensuring that our seas remain safe, the ongoing construction of 180 units of social housing being built in conjunction with the Abu Dhabi Fund of Development.

“We are recognisant that both Abu Dhabi and Dubai remain two of the most critical links in connecting people around the globe. They are certainly essential in connecting Seychelles to the world. I wish to commend the strategic partnership that happily exists between Air Seychelles and Etihad Airways,” she said.

She also noted areas and opportunities of further development in sustainable development and the blue economy among other sectors.

Following a toast to the betterment of the partnership between our two countries, a cake-cutting ceremony was held to mark the auspicious occasion.

Present during the ceremony were former President James Michel, Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Pillay, president of the Court of Appeal Justice Francis McGregor, leader of opposition Wavel Ramkalwan, leader of government business Charles Decomarmond, ministers, other members of the National Assembly, members of the diplomatic corps, members of the UAE embassy among other guests.
