Seychelles Regatta sets sail next year |12 December 2017

After being absent for a couple of years, the Seychelles Regatta makes a remarkable return next year to our sea

The 4th Seychelles Regatta, a sailing competition designed to take place in a relaxed atmosphere, will be held from May 27 to June 3, 2018.

This was announced by the Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine Maurice Loustau-Lalanne, in a press conference held at the Botanical House, Mont Fleuri.

Also present were the chief executive of the Seychelles Tourism Board (STB) Sherin Francis, the chairman of the Seychelles Yachting Association Alain Alcindor among others.

During the regatta, the contestants will sail the waters of the inner islands – Silhouette, Praslin, Curieuse and La Digue.

Minister Loustau-Lanne stated that such competition will attract many local and international skippers.

“The Seychelles Regatta plays an important role in showcasing not only sailing in Seychelles, but also other components of a destination that has so very much to offer: stunning natural beauty, awesome levels of diversity, the genuinely friendly Seychellois people and an enviably unprocessed island-style way of life which has such a recalibrating and rejuvenating effect on the soul,” he said.

The event is being organised by a France based company ‘Publie Voile’ with the support of the authorities including the Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine, STB, with the aim of developing tourism and encouraging discovery the Seychelles islands.

During the press conference it was announced that five professional skippers and two locals have already confirmed their participation for the Seychelles Regatta 2018.

The international skippers are Michel Desjoyeaux, Samantha Davies, François Gabart, Loick Peyron and Roland Jourdain.

The number of participants is limited to 20 boats with crews of 6 to 8 people onboard, and registration can be made on www.theseychellesregatta.com or by contacting STB.
