SADC Council of NGOs - Jules Hoareau completes mandate as president |15 December 2017

 

 

 

Jules Hoareau has completed his mandate as president of the SADC Council of NGOs after two years in office.

The 6th general assembly of the Southern Africa region council of NGOs was held recently in Johannesburg, South Africa and all SADC member states attended. Seychelles was represented by Marie Nella Azemia from Ceps (Citizens Engagement Platform Seychelles) and Jules Hoareau as the president of the council.   

In his opening speech to the assembly, Mr Hoareau said: “We are at a crucial time when our region is faced with a plethora of challenges on the governance front emanating from economic, political and social crises being experienced in different member States of the SADC region.”

Other important issues discussed at the 6th civil society assembly were the African Charter on elections and good governance and political instabilities in Zimbabwe and the DRC.

Mr Hoareau said that during his tenure in office as the president of the SADC Council of NGOs, the organisation has faced many challenges but they have managed to strengthen the collaboration with the SADC secretariat and enhance regional civil society networks.

Before taking the position as president Mr Hoareau was previously the vice- president of SADC CNGO.

The new president of this regional council is Emmanuel Ndlangamandla from Swaziland.
