Children lift festive mood at Hilton Seychelles Labriz with carols |19 December 2017

School children from La Digue school all dressed up in their robes, gathered at Hilton Seychelles Labriz Resort & Spa on Sunday evening to heighten the festive spirit at the resort through their carols.

The carols singing started at around 6pm with the children walking in procession from the main bridge of La Passe, which was also adorned in Christmas decorations, towards the central part of the island where normally the main activities of the resort take place.

Lining up in front of a traditional Creole Christmas tree adorned with coconuts painted in gold colour and decorated with Christmas lights, the children sang popular carols in all our three languages – Creole, English and French.

Such famous hits included ‘Les Anges dans nos Campagnes’, ‘Oh come all ye Faithful’, ‘Ziz byen Per Noel’, ‘Sa kart Nwel’, ‘Joy to the world’, just to name some.

They were very much appreciated by the visitors at the resort who had come out to watch them, including the resort’s general manager Andre Borg.

As treats, the children were later given lots of goodies like sweets, cakes, drinks and small gifts by the Hilton Seychelles Labriz Resort & Spa management to show their appreciation.

“The majority of the children are from P6 of La Digue school with only two of them at secondary level. I decided to choose P6 ones so as to make it easier costume-wise as they just had their confirmation and therefore they could use their robes which were already available, thus making life easier for us,” said Maria Ernesta, who was leading the choir.

She said the school was asked to put up such a performance by the National Council for Children (NCC) after being contacted by Hilton Seychelles Labriz. NCC was represented at that evening by Sharon Meriton-Jean, the NCC’s public relations officer there.

“It took us one week to put the show together. As the children were sitting their national exams, we had to wait until they finished so we could start practicing,” said Maria.

Hilton Seychelles Labriz Resort & Spa went further than just delivering gifts to the children. They hosted them to an overnight stay at the resort which both the children and their coordinator really appreciated.

“It is the first time I come to Silhouette and we found it a very beautiful island,” said Maria.

Every segment of the resort, like villas, offices, restaurants, conservation and dive centres, were all dressed up in their festive attire. Hilton Seychelles Labriz was particularly proud of their Porto Bello Restaurant where local artists Nigel Henrie and James Agricole have mounted up a huge canvas representing Seychelles Christmas. The resort is even thinking of leaving it there permanently.
