Lawyer Nichol Gabriel takes part in legal conference in China |23 December 2017
Lawyer Nichol Gabriel was recently the guest of the China Law Society to take part in a twin conference on legal risks and counter-measures of international investment and trade in Beijing, China and the conference on promoting rule of law and protecting woman rights in Qingdao.
The event was organised for 15 legal experts from 12 Francophone African countries which include Benin, Guinea, Cameroon, Congo, Seychelles, Djibouti, Mali, Senegal, Tunisia, Mauritius, Morocco and Algeria.
The theme for this year’s conference included the much-applauded concept of The Silk Road and Belt which was pioneered by Chinese President Xi Jiping following the China-Africa Summit in Johannesburg in 2013. It laid the foundation for the futuristic cooperation between China and the rest of the world based on mutual respect.
China Law Society is the largest nationwide authoritative academic organisation of the Chinese legal circles. It assembles legal elites of the whole country, and acts as the main channel of Chinese legal circle’s international exchange. So far, China Law Society has signed memoranda of understanding with 135 important legal organisations from over 90 countries and regions, including 46 African legal organisations and judicial organs. In 2009, China Law Society initiated the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation – Legal Forum. China Legal Exchange Center is a public institution affiliated to China Law Society, specialising in international legal exchange, which is entrusted by the Chinese Follow-up Committee of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation to carry out ‘Francophone African Legal Experts Delegation’ project.
He was also interviewed by Chinese television and ironically the interviewer happened to be a journalist who had just returned from her honeymoon journey in Seychelles.
