Anse Faure road reopens to vehicular traffic |04 January 2018

Motorists have since last week started to use the stretch of road running past the Carefree guest house at Anse Faure (in the Anse Aux Pins district).

This stretch of road had been closed for some time to allow for the construction of a culvert with the aim of improving the flow of water especially during heavy rains.

This project started around September 2016 and was set to finish after 180 days. However after evaluating the construction site, the Drainage Task Force (DTF) encountered certain difficulties such as big boulders which made it difficult to finish the work on time. Such inconvenience led to new planning and new equipment being brought in and which took weeks to assemble.

Now that this stretch of road has been reopened for traffic, the temporary bypass road which motorists had been using has now been cut off.

This project, as well as others such as a bridge at Au Cap, came about following heavy flooding in this part of Mahé some two years ago. The districts that were mostly affected were Pointe Larue, Anse Aux Pins, Au Cap and Anse Royale. The effects of this were the loss of property and collapse of landscape.

In the wake of these incidents, the DTF in collaboration with the Seychelles Land Transport Agency (SLTA), initiated a series of drainage projects with the hope of minimising the effects of such natural calamities.
