Eighth Cable Tunes Award venue bigger and better |06 January 2018

This year’s Cable Tunes Award ceremony will take place this evening at the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay & Resort & Casino and the organisers, Cable & Wireless (Seychelles) Ltd (CWS), has said that this year’s event will be a bigger affair as there will be more space for both artists, organisers and especially the public.

To that effect more tickets, some 500, are also being sold through that telecommunications mobile network.

Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay caters for around 700 people and this year’s award is the eighth one being organised by the local telecommunications company supporting local artists.

Other new things with this year’s event is that customers will be able to purchase their tickets from their credit on their mobile phones. Previously they were able to do so only through their cable points. And of course you have to be a Cable & Wireless customer to be eligible. This also applies to members of the public voting for their favourite artists through SMS.

Another first with this eighth Cable Tunes awards is that Telesesel, which broadcasts only though Cable & Wireless cable TV network, is hoping to broadcast the event live as from 9pm from Berjaya.

These announcements were made by Bella Damou, public relations & events executive; Marcus Rydin, general manager events who is the event organiser both from CWS and Clive Camille of Telesesel. Rydin will be providing the lightings, décor, logistic side of things and for the first time Telesesel will host the filming and broadcasting.

“Cable Tunes award is an event that the organisers, artists and the public in general look forward to,” said Ms Damou.

Prizes in eight categories are at stake ranging from best new artist; best male artist; best female artist; best single; best collaboration; best album; best group; and best video clips.

As for the chosen venue, Ms Damou said there is not really that suitable nightclub around Mahé that can cater for the event.

“And we all know what happened at the Katiolo nightclub, host of last year’s Cable Tunes award. And Tequila Boom, another former host, is no longer. But even Katiolo did not provide that needed space.

“We do not want to lose the prestige of the event by having it held at for example, the mini stadium or the NSC hall. We want to keep its standard and hence Berjaya,” Ms Damou said.

Other organising personalities at the forefront this evening are John Etienne, artistic director; Richie Flore as Master of Ceremony, who will be assisted by Verna to add a bit of humour to the event.

“For the past month or so we have been carrying out some tests with regard to bringing the event to people in their homes. Not only on Mahé but on Praslin and La Digue also where we are quite popular. So people can follow the event LIVE on Telesesel,” said Mr Camille.

Final tests, he said, are being conducted to ensure everything goes well for that day. Issues can be expected as it is the television station’s very first live coverage since they started broadcasting more than a year ago.

“It’s a partnership that we’ve developed with Cable & Wireless (Seychelles) Ltd

since we’ve started Telesesel,” said Mr Camille, adding the event forms part of Telesesel’sstrategy of developing more local contents for the Seychellois public.

Mr Camille added there is a couple of local events lined up for Telesesel with the 2017 Sports Awards ceremony being one of them.

To vote for the artist of your choice SMS the number of your nomination to 9688. For example artist Kelly is number 1. So SMS 1 to 9688. And be at the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay from 9pm for the two-hour show which will crown the best Artis Lokal!
