National Assembly opens its doors to special guests |11 January 2018

Delegates attending the 24th Conference of Speakers & Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) were given a tour of the National Assembly yesterday afternoon.

The delegates were welcomed by the deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Nicholas Prea, the leader of government business Charles De Commarmond, members Jean-François Ferrari and Ahmed Afif, the Clerk, Jutta Alexis, deputy Clerk Tania Isaac and the secretariat of the National Assembly.

All the speakers and presiding officers accompanied by their clerks and parliamentary officials were able to visit the parliamentary museum and the chamber where all the debates take place.

The CSPOC conference, which was officially opened by President Danny Faure on Tuesday morning at the Savoy Resort at Beau Vallon, brings together the speakers and presiding officers of 22 bicameral parliaments and 30 unicameral parliaments – a total of 74 members from 52 nations.

The conference is an independent group which aims to maintain, foster and encourage impartiality and fairness on the part of the speakers and presiding officers of the parliaments. The conference provides a forum for the sharing of parliamentary best practices and fruitful collaborations across national parliaments of the Commonwealth States.
