Anse Boileau requisite store performing well |16 January 2018

Officially opened last October, the new Anse Boileau requisite store has the capacity to stock up more farming products to offer local farmers.

Linetta Estico, deputy chief executive of the Seychelles Agricultural Agency (SAA), made this declaration last Friday after President Danny Faure inspected the facility during his visit to the Anse Boileau research and development station and other agricultural facilities and services on Mahé.

“Since October until now, we have seen an increase in the number of users of this infrastructure. They have noticed new requisites which have been brought in and were not available before. We used to have a small requisite store, therefore it was not possible to stock everything that was needed by the farmers,” said Ms Estico.

Therefore, she said, the store is a facility that really helps local farmers.

The store, a joint project of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and the SAA, was officially opened by the Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Pamela Charlette.

It replaces an older and smaller one which was located further inland but at the same venue.

Its aim is to provide affordable and accessible agricultural inputs like seeds, fertilisers and pesticides principally to registered farmers but also to other members of the public.

The requisite service started in Seychelles way back in the 1960s.

The store is also open to the public, especially now that home gardening is on the increase, something the agency and ministry are putting much emphasis on.
