Commonwealth - First ever Elders’ Forum to be held in April |23 January 2018

Professionals working with older people across the Commonwealth are being invited to attend an Elders’ Forum in partnership with the UK’s National Care Forum to be held in the UK from April 16 – 18, 2018.

Aiming to connect and share across the Commonwealth, the CommonAge and Quality Compliance Systems (QCS) bursary scheme is helping fund care professionals and volunteers from Commonwealth nations working with older people to attend the Elders’ Forum.

The Forum is the first of its kind and is linked to the 2018 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). Delegates at the Forum will hear international speakers, take part in workshops, make amazing connections plus much, more.

QCS chief executive Mat Whittingham says: “The opportunity to come to the UK to contribute will have an enormous impact. Older people across the Commonwealth will benefit from this fantastic scheme and the UK sector will benefit from the rich diversity and international experience those colleagues from Commonwealth countries will bring. QCS are proud to partner with CommonAge to support this fantastic initiative.”

Founded in Australia in 2013, CommonAge is an accredited Commonwealth organisation. Its purpose is to ensure elders in all Commonwealth countries are supported to enjoy the highest possible quality of life in their senior years and to continue to contribute wisdom and experience to their communities.

CommonAge chairman Andrew Larpent OBE says: “We are a young organisation but already we have many exciting programmes with our life story project, ‘Ageing in the Commonwealth’ research project and our planned Elders Forum linked to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Summit Meeting in April 2018.”

“We are delighted Quality Compliance Systems has joined us in the exciting journey,” he continues. “The bursary scheme will allow us to offer substantial financial assistance for colleagues from developing Commonwealth countries to attend the first ever Commonwealth Elders’ Forum.”
