Court donates to ‘Parents for Hope’ organisation |23 January 2018

The ‘Parents for Hope’ organisation which support parents and children affected by the scourge of drugs in our community, has received a cash donation from the Palais de Justice.

The amount, totalling R7,598.30, was collected during the church service marking the re-opening of the Supreme Court last week.

The money was handed over on Friday afternoon in a small ceremony in the Chief Justice’s Chambers at the Palais de Justice, Ile du Port.

‘Parents for Hope’ is an organisation created back in 2004 and which brings together parents whose children have been affected by drug addiction.

It was the Registrar of the Supreme Court, Juliana Esticot, who handed over the cash to the chairperson of ‘Parents for Hope’ Edna Jean.

Mrs Esticot stated that the donation will allow the organisation to better tackle the drugs problem affecting the community.

“The money was collected during the Church service marking the opening of the Supreme Court last week; we managed to collect the sum of R7,598.30. We have decided not to change it, but to give you the exact amount of cash collected as part of transparency,” she said.

Chairperson Jean was very emotional as she thanked the Palais de Justice for the generous and kind heart.

“A lot of mothers whose children are suffering from drug addiction and its negative consequences frequently fall into tears. The organisation was created to solve the drugs addiction problem in our small country. Every parent want their children to have a good life, but sometimes it is difficult to find the correct guidance and help for them. Such donation gives us hope and the money will help other parents in this struggle,” she said.

Chief Justice Mathilda Twomey took the opportunity to urge the community to work together to combat the scourge of drugs.

“Drugs is a concern for all of us, it affects all families in the country. This gesture proves that we also care for the health of our country and want to contribute towards a better future for all of us. We all need to support each other so that we can see a change in the years to come,” she said.
