The pink road of Praslin |12 February 2018

The island of Praslin now has a stretch of pink road.

It is over one kilometre long, passing at the back of the Raffles Hotel, and part of the main road in the hills from Anse Boudin to Anse Lazio.

It is another uniqueness to Praslin, as Alain, the young SPTC bus driver explains with pride: “You know we have pink granite here. Now they are making granite dust and macadam from it. When they mix it with tar we get this nice pink road.”

Pink granite is known in Creole as ros rouz.

Praslin has a abundance of pink granite. With time the Praslinois are finding new uses for it. Surely the uses will become popular in other parts of Seychelles.
