Police Communique - Woman caught in possession of drugs on court’s premises |16 February 2018

Officers of the Police Support Service Wing (PSSW) apprehended a young woman on Wednesday this week on the premises of the Palais de Justice, Ile du Port in possession of some powdered substance suspected to be heroin, which is a controlled drug.

The drug, destined for an accused on remand at Montagne Posée Prison whose case was to be heard that same afternoon, was confiscated and the young woman arrested and placed in the custody of agents of the Anti-Narcotics Bureau (ANB).

Members of the public are herewith forewarned that the courts of Seychelles are taking a firm and uncompromising stance vis-a-vis the possession of drugs or any forbidden or illegal items on their premises and any member of the public suspected to be in possession of those items will be searched on the spot.

Safety is a right and a priority for all who attend and work at the courts. These searches, random or otherwise, will be conducted henceforth to avoid the recurrence of such incidents and at the same time safeguard our law courts, making it a place where members of the public can safely seek recourse.
