Volleyball - Arsu receives sponsorship |17 February 2018

The presentation ceremony

Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) zone 7 Indian Ocean club championship winners Arsu will put their title on the line early next month when Seychelles hosts the competition.

If the players are sweating it out on the court to be ready for the championship, the team’s management has not been dormant as it brought in new sponsors early this week.

Record 10-time winners of the CAVB zone 7 Indian Ocean club championship, Arsu have received a cheque for R16,000 from M.D Pillay & Co Shop of Anse Royale, Kot Dalon shop of Belle Vue La Misère, and Chez Ami shop at Roche Caïman.

It was Chandrasekaran Padmanaban from Chez Ami Shop of Roche Caïman who presented the cheques to team president Jourdanne Imer in the presence of member of the National Assembly Sylvanne Lemiel, Mr and Mrs Ravichandran Pillay from M.D Pillay & Co Shop of Anse Royale, Praveen Kumar from Kot Dalon shop of Belle Vue, La Misère, coach Julien Onezime, team manager Richard Lagrenade, district administrator Linette Dodin and most of the players.

The money will go towards the procurement of new sets of uniform which the team will wear during the championship to be played at the Palais des Sports from March 3-10.

Mr Chandrasekaran told members of the team that the three Indian shops will continue to help Arsu through sponsorship in the future.

The competition was slated for December last year but the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) postponed it due to the plague epidemic in Madagascar and the fact that there were travel bans to the island.

Arsu are the women’s title holders of the CAVB zone 7 Indian Ocean club championship and they claimed their 10th title ‒ a record ‒ in 2016 by beating Mauritian side Quatre Bornes VBC in 3 sets ‒ 28-25, 28-25 and 27-25 ‒ in the final played in Mauritius. With the win, Arsu qualified for the African Club Championship.

Arsu’s other nine titles came in 1997, 1998, 2002, 2003, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2014 and 2015.
