Employment department hosts recruitment fair |17 February 2018

Around two hundred people took part in a job recruitment fair hosted yesterday by the department of employment.

The fair took place at the International Conference Centre Seychelles (ICCS) where around 36 organisations were present with over 500 job vacancies to offer the youths of Seychelles.

The director of special employment programme Letimy Dookley said the fair targeted school leavers which fall under ‘My first job scheme’.

“The fair has been organised to expose the school leavers who completed their studies at the level of post secondary and professional centres. They get the chance to meet and interact with the employers with the possibility of being employed,” she said.

There were also selections and interviews being done on the spot.

Although the school leavers were considered as priority, other people who are unemployed or those who wished to seek more information about a company was more than welcome to the fair.

The fair was held from 9am to 3pm and while the turnout was very low in the morning, it started to pick up towards the afternoon.

However Mrs Dookley expressed that they expected more participation from the school leavers as this was the perfect opportunity to obtain an employment.

“Most organisations also expressed how happy they are to have taken part in this event but they also wished to have seen more people attend,” she said.

The companies and organisations present included Barclays, MCB, Samsung, Inconek, BDO, JOBO, WASTEA,  Allied building & engineering contractor, Legacy Trust Comoany, Neil’s construction, 7 South, Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA), Seychelles Fire and Rescue Services Agency (SFRSA), Seypec, Seychelles Agricultural Agency (SAA) and the Seychelles Defence Forces.

A range of hotels were also present such as Le Relax, Hilton, Denis Private Island, Raffles, Le Meridien, Indian Ocean Lodge, Savoy, Constance, Kempinski and Carana beach.

The Minister for Employment, Immigration and Civil Status Myriam Telemaque also found time to visit the fair and to interact with the various work places represented.
