DBS celebrates Ruby Anniversary and rewards long-serving staff |19 February 2018

Four employees who have clocked between 25 and 32 years of service with the Development Bank of Seychelles (DBS) have been rewarded.

The recognition comes as the bank celebrates its Ruby Anniversay

Senior legal officer Ben Rosette has served for 32 years with the bank.

“I started working at DBS in 1985 in the loan section department. At first it was very difficult but with time, which goes by fast, I managed to overcome all obstacles. In June I will retire, and probably I will work as a consultant for the bank,” he said.

The other three long-serving employees were Lydie Ally, currently working as an assistant accountant, who clocked in 25 years of service, followed by credit manager Diana Bonelame, who also clocked in 25 years and administrative manager Roy Charlette who clocked in 27 years of service.

The long-serving staff were recognised in a small ceremony held last week at the Coral Strand Hotel in the presence of the bank’s chief executive (CEO) Daniel Gappy, former CEOs Roger Toussaint and Annie Vidot, loyal DBS staff, among other guests.

The DBS Bank is one of the first banks in Seychelles to celebrate its 40th Anniversary. The bank was created in 1977 as a joint venture between the government and other shareholders namely Caisse Française de Cooperation, European Investment Bank, DEG, Standard Chartered Bank and Barclays Bank. During the years, some shareholders namely Barclays Bank and DEG disengaged themselves from DBS.

In a female dominant work place of 50 devoted women, and only 8 men, DBS has been able to overcome all obstacles.

CEO Gappy thanked the loyal and dedicated employees for their long years of service and commitment in their chosen fields at DBS.

He acknowledged the long-serving employees as examples and mentors to the newcomers in the bank and expressed the hope that new employees would show as much dedication, loyalty and commitment.

“It is customary on occasions such as this 40th anniversary to look back and take stock to see how far we have come as a development finance institution. It is also appropriate to look forward to the challenges that lie ahead and determine how we could address them. During the four decades, the bank has seen a substantial increase in the demand for new project developments as well as a substantial increase in the volume of transactions it handles. Over the years DBS has financed 8516 projects in excess of R2.76 billion,” he said.

To mark such milestone CEO Gappy, along with other employees, cut a commemorative cake.

During the 40 years, DBS has evolved to become one of the leading financial institutions in project financing in almost all sectors of the economy.

DBS also has an office on Praslin that is operational on a daily basis, with the aim of facilitating and bringing its services to its clients on Praslin as well as La Digue.
