Reigning beauty queen meets Minister for Family Affairs, seeks advice on project |22 February 2018

The reigning Miss Seychelles …Another World for 2018 Hillary Joubert was yesterday received by the Minister for Family Affairs Jeanne Simeon and the principal secretary for social affairs, Linda William-Melanie from the same ministry.

She was accompanied by Gustave de Commarmond, the deputy chief executive of Cinea (Creative Industries and National Events Agency).

Apart from rallying support for her Beauty with a Purpose Project which is on bullying in schools, Miss Joubert is also seeking the ministry’s advice on how best to go about using her title to reach out to the youths, be their role model and promote different life skills through small projects which she can initiate and promote.

Originally her Beauty with a Purpose Project was to push for a centre for children with bullying problems but this has been found to be unrealisable in her one year reign so she will now focus on getting advice from concerned ministries and agencies on how best she could influence these pupils concerned and come up with small projects to help them. Besides the Ministry of Family Affairs she will also seek the support of the Ministry of Education.

Both Minister Simeon and PS William-Melanie welcomed the beauty queen’s initiative and were keen to advise her on different possible projects she could come up with to work with schools, orphanages, and youths in her district Beau Vallon.

“I would advise you to limit yourself concentrating on something that would make a great difference and where at the end of your reign that difference would be there for all to see,” Minister Simeon advised the beauty queen, calling on her to seek the support of MCB, the company she works for, in her projects.

Minister Simeon added that her ministry will fully support her in her initiatives.

For her part PS William-Melanie said: “There are many areas in which you can share your life experience through different initiatives you can come up with. You come from a humble family and humble beginnings but you have worked your way up to achieve what you want through education which many pupils are not taking seriously and it is important to stress on education to build a career and boost their self esteem.”

Once she finalises her work plan for the rest of the year of her reign Miss Joubert hopes to announce it officially.
