MCB shows interest in Seychelles’ Commonwealth Games team |24 February 2018

Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB) has for some years now been a main sponsor for Seychelles teams at major international competitions and Seychellois athletes going to the forthcoming Commonwealth Games will sports unique custom bags from the bank.

Yesterday morning at the bank’s headquarters at Caravelle House, representatives of MCB met members of the National Sports Council (NSC) and Seychelles Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (Socga) along with some athletes who will be taking part in the Commonwealth Games to present them with backpacks for their long journey.

It was MCB managing director Bernard Jackson who presented members of the Seychelles team with their unique custom MCB bags.

NSC chief executive Giovanna Rousseau and Socga vice-president Hughues Adam were present and accepted the sponsorship on behalf of sports organisations. Some top athletes also showed their appreciation. Young male Athlete of the Year 2017 Stephen Belle, 60m record holder Sharry Dodin and All Africa Badminton Championship women’s double gold medallists Alisen Camille and Juliette Ah-Wan accepted the sponsorship on behalf of the athletes.

“Over the past years, we have been contributing regularly to sports events and we decided to sponsor the bags because there are many sports in the Commonwealth Games and we tried to find the common thing that everybody would find useful. We are constantly looking at sports events to provide our help. It’s true that national events can give more advertising to MCB, but internationally, it’s more like an encouragement to the athletes since they are part of the MCB family”, said MCB managing director Jackson.

The Commonwealth Games will start on April 4 in Gold Coast, Australia and 23 athletes will be representing Seychelles in athletics, boxing, badminton, cycling, weightlifting, and swimming.

After Seychellois failed to make a good showing in the last Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, local sports lovers expect much from them this time.
