Miss Seychelles Plus 2018 appointed Stand Up, Step Up ambassador |02 March 2018

Miss Seychelles Plus 2018, Angela Jeannie, has been appointed as the official ambassador for the Stand Up, Step Up campaign.

She met the association’s chairman and co-ordinator of the campaign, Trevor Louise, this week and was presented with her documents and a T-shirt embossed with the campaign’s slogan.

During her year of reign, Angela will join the battle against any form of bullying and also wants to be the voice of women who are victims of bullying.

“My aim is to change the mindset of people and put emphasis that all women should be respected and be appreciated regardless of their status or size,” Angela said.

She said that any form of bullying towards anybody is not acceptable and this should be stopped, adding that she would give her full support and commitment to the organisation.

Angela Jeannie was formally appointed as the Stand Up, Step Up ambassador at the campaign’s symposium to commemorate the Orange Day, a day proclaimed by the UN secretary-general's UNiTE to End Violence against Women campaign to take action to raise awareness and prevent violence against women and girls. The day is celebrated on the 25th of each month.

Such an initiative is also supported by the local campaign UNiTE for Peace: End Gender Based Violence.

In recent years, Seychelles has seen an unprecedented rise in levels of violence not only against women and girls but also among youth in general.

Mr Louise stated that if we want to put a stop to violence and build a peaceful future for generations to come, there is an urgent need of change of minds, hearts and behaviour of our children.

As Miss Seychelles Plus 2018, Angela, along with her two princesses, also met the Minister for Youth, Sports and Culture, Mitcy Larue, and her special advisor for Youth, Kevin Vidot.

They discussed the calendar of activities and projects for the year including the ministry’s support towards the Miss Seychelles Plus 2018 activities she plans to do, especially sports projects that will promote healthy lifestyle habits.

Angela and her first princess also took part in the 'Dyalog an Direk' television programme on the fight against obesity.

As Miss Seychelles Plus 2018, Angela visited the Montagne Posée Prison with members of the Bling Bling Poetry Association where they conducted poetry workshops. She got to interact with some prisoners.

Describing the visit as an emotional one, she pointed out that the prisoners who got to participate in the workshop were extremely talented.

The contestants of Miss Seychelles Plus 2018 also took part in the 5km segment of the Eco-Friendly Marathon which took place last weekend.

They are also participating in the 30-minute exercise programme initiated by the Ministry of Health and held every Thursday at Stad Popiler.

Last but not least Angela, her second princess Sandra Florine and another pageant contestant Natasha Charlette have also donated blood to the Blood Bank at the Seychelles Hospital.
