ISS students showcase artwork at Eden Plaza |07 March 2018

Art students from the International School Seychelles (ISS) are currently showcasing their artwork in an exhibition that opened yesterday at the Eden Art Space in the Eden Plaza.

The exhibition has been organised by the school’s Art department and its Parents Teachers Association (PTA) in collaboration with Arterial Network Seychelles.

The students are from various classes -- from Year 4 to IGCSE and A Level.

The exhibition comprises different themes such as paper art, Egyptian landscapes, natural forms, iconic object among others.

The head of KS4 and KS5 classes of Art and Design, Richard Pitman, said that the benefit of associating art with student learning can stimulate language development, decision making, visual learning, cultural awareness and also improve academic performance.

“We have a wealth of young people who have  artistic talents at our school and  I think this is a wonderful and exciting opportunity for students to see their work in a real art gallery space, knowing that a wider public will see their work next to other professional art pieces,” Mr Pittman said.

He added that such event will allow the art students to portray their skills, which they have gained throughout their academic year.

“We hope that this activity will become an annual event for the school, where we can discover the talents of what might be future artists of Seychelles as these young students are promoting their skills and ability towards the art industry at a very young age and have got the ability to shine at an international level,” Mr Pittman said.

Arterial Network Seychelles (ANS) has supported the exhibition and also helped to promote art as an integral part of a student’s learning at the school.

Present at yesterday’s opening were parents, the school’s staff, the Board of Governors, local artists and ANS members among other guests.

The exhibition will remain on display for the public until March 16, 2018.
