Domino: Mohan Shopping Centre-sponsored division one league |14 March 2018

Champions Unity falter in first match

Division one champions Unity started the defence of their title on a sour note as they fell 3-5 to Tryers who were ranked second last year.

The Mohan Shopping Centre-sponsored division one domino league kicked off last Saturday afternoon and the match was played at the Cascade community centre.

In the other top flight matches, Takamaka defeated Mont Buxton ‘B’ 3-2, while La Salette, who are back in the first division after a one-year spell in the second last year, showed that they will be a force to be reckoned with this season as they defeated Destroyers 4-1. As for the other newcomers in the top flight, Anse Aux Pins, they were not as lucky as they lost their first match 3-4 against Baie Lazare.

The second division league starts this coming Saturday at the Grand Anse Mahé community centre with Anse Boileau taking on Seychelles Police who were demoted at the end of last year, Anse Boileau ‘B’ playing Zanmi.  In a single match at the Mont Buxton community centre, Cascade will meet Quincy Village.

Last year, Unity finished the first division league on 33 points followed by Tryers in second position on 29 points. Seychelles Police and Conquerors were demoted to the second division after they finished at the bottom of the table.

In the second division last year, Anse Aux Pins claimed the top spot with 26 points with La Salette in second position on 24 points and they both won automatic promotion to the first division league. The second division only has seven teams after Seychelles Breweries closed down.
