Productivity Awareness Week ‘Nurturing a culture of productivity and service excellence’ |17 March 2018

This year’s Productivity Awareness Week will be launched on Monday March 19 under the theme ‘Nurturing a culture of productivity and service excellence’.

As is customary every year, the Ministry of Employment, Immigration and Civil Status, in collaboration with key stakeholders in the private sector, organises various activities to commemorate Productivity Week under a specific theme. The various activities that will be organised this year will target employers/ employees, students and the population at large.

One of the key success factors of a Productivity Awareness Week is to rally the people, change their mindset, harness their passion, their skills and build them into a cohesive competitive team.

This year’s activities will be geared towards increasing public awareness on sustainable ways of improving performance among various sectors.

The theme ‘Nurturing a culture of productivity and service excellence’ will be the main theme to celebrate Productivity Week 2018. Since the government is putting a lot of emphasis on good governance, accountability, hard work and ‘service to the public’, there is a need  for each and every one of us to develop a culture of hard work and to nurture an attitude of service excellence in meeting the needs of the public with high standard of quality and courtesy. Government and public service employees have a vested interest to work together to provide the best possible public services and in so doing improve the quality of life of the Seychellois people.

The main objective of the activities to be organised is to educate, sensitise and promote productivity challenges and best practices among employers, employees, students and the population at large.

The Productivity Week 2018 will be officially launched on Monday March 19 by the Minister for Employment, Immigration and Civil Status, Miriam Telemaque, in a ceremony to be held at the Guy Morel Institute at Ma Joie.

This will be followed soon after at the same venue by a workshop on productivity concepts for PSE Careers Guidance teachers/Student Support officers.

The main objectives of the workshop are to establish an understanding on the term productivity; build capacity of the PSE Careers Guidance teachers and Student Support officers to ensure that teachers are adequately prepared to embrace Productivity Education.

In recognition of improving performance in all sectors, especially in the public sector, a workshop on ‘Performance Management/Accountability Framework’ will be organised on Wednesday March 21 and Thursday March 22 at the Guy Morel Institute. The main objectives of this workshop are to equip leaders with the necessary tools in how to manage their organisations strategically to be able to make a difference to enhance productivity in their respective workplaces.

Last but not least a session on work ethics will take place on Thursday March 22 and Friday March 23 for S4/S5 students of Plaisance, Beau Vallon, Mont Fleuri, Perseverance and English River schools.

The session will enable the students to further their knowledge on good values, discipline at work and the importance of productivity so that they are better prepared to enter the world of work.

This session is being organised by the Ministry of Employment, Immigration and Civil Status in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development and the Seychelles National Youth Council.
