Young cyclist Fadi Confiance passes away |19 March 2018

Seychelles sport is in mourning once again.

This follows the passing of young cyclist Fadi Confiance.

Sports NATION has learned that Fadi died yesterday after a short illness.

He was just 21 years old and had started making a name for himself on the local stage as he won cadet champion title, the SeaShell Travel mid-year tour after accumulating the fastest time in the three stages in July 2014 and the Mohan Shopping Centre-sponsored New Year’s Tour in January 2015.

He also trained at the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Continental Centre based in Potchefstroom, South Africa.

In August 2015, he represented Seychelles at the 9th Indian Ocean Island Games in Reunion and joined forces with Chris Germain, Dominic Arissol and Ahmad Arrisol to win the team time trial bronze medal with the third fastest time of 1 hour 7 minutes 41 seconds (1h07:41).

Fadi even took part in the African Championship and Tour de Maurice, and he went to Tanzania to do trials to join semi-professional teams.

Seychelles Cycling Association chairman and coach Lucas Georges described Fadi as “serious with strong temperament”.

“He loved cycling and wanted to become a professional rider. His strong temperament was a big asset and he was very good in individual time trial. It is very sad to lose him at such a very young age,” said coach Georges.
