Wavel Ramkalawan reacts to President Faure’s remark on Assomption agreement |21 March 2018

The agreement on Assomption is dead already for the LDS and therefore the opposition does not expect to see it feature on any agenda between President Danny Faure and itself.

The leader of the opposition Wavel Ramkalawan said this in the National Assembly yesterday when reacting to President Faure’s remarks in the Presidential press conference on Monday evening.

The President said in the conference that as both parties in the Assembly have said they will not ratify the agreement, it is only fair that the matter is discussed again with Mr Ramkalawan whom he said he is going to meet on March 26. During that meeting President Faure stated that he expects Mr Ramkalawan to point out what he does not agree with in the agreement and what he believes should be improved.

In the Assembly yesterday morning, Mr Ramkalawan said Mr Faure gave the impression that the agreement on Assomption was a petty issue which could be easily discussed and resolved during their meeting and after which everything will be fine.

In the same press conference President Faure also affirmed that he did not listen to the National Assembly members’ reaction to his State-of-the-nation address, something Mr Ramkalawan termed as very irresponsible.

“As he did not listen to me I would like to reiterate clearly that the LDS has nothing else to do with the agreement on Assomption,” Mr Ramkalawan stressed.
