Ceps elects new committee |22 March 2018

• Jude Fred elected chairman of new board

The Civil Engagement Platform Seychelles (Ceps) has elected Jude Fred as its new board chairman.

The election took place during Ceps’ AGM held last weekend at the International Conference Centre (ICCS).

The AGM was a much awaited event on the Ceps calendar and the meeting  began after the confirmation of a fifty per cent of the quorum as required by its constitution.

The AGM started with a reflection and then moved into its agenda which had over 15 points for discussion.

The outgoing secretary, Marie Nella Azemia, welcomed everybody and then handed over the floor to the Ceps volunteer ambassador Justin Freminot, who delivered the welcoming remarks.

Mr Freminot said that the AGM will allow discussions on Ceps’ work done throughout the year as well as its achievements.

The assembly corrected and approved the minutes from the AGM of the previous year.

The reports of each section were presented and queries upon them were duly answered and clarified.

The auditor’s report was also presented and clarifications were made on a few issues found.

The highlight of the day was the dissolution of the current board and the preparation for the election of the new board.

Beatty Hoareau from the Electoral Commission supervised the election proceedings with all candidates introducing themselves and briefly stating the reasons why they should be elected to the respective offices.

The election process saw Jude Fred elected as chairman of the new Ceps board, Marie Nella Azemia as vice-chair, Germaine Gill as secretay and Mervyn Fanny as treasurer. The new commissioners are Claudette Albert (socio-economic), Eline Moses (gender rights and governance), François Larue (social, health and education), Anne Marie Elizabeth (faith based) and Trevor Louise (youth, sports and culture).

The posts for environment and natural resources and professional organisations are still vacant.

The credentials committee comprising Jacques Koui, Brigitta Camille, Margaret Maillet, Fred Bamboche and Theresia Julie was also elected.

In his inaugural remarks, the newly elected Ceps chairman Jude Fred called on Ceps members to work together so as to bring Ceps to a higher level.

“Ceps is us and we have to be committed in our work to enable our members to grow within the context of transparency, accountability and good governance. Let us put the mistakes of the past to rest and start afresh. It is only through this that we will succeed as the civil society platform of Seychelles,” Mr Fred said.
