Football: First division league - Foresters register second victory at Northern Dynamo’s expense |23 March 2018

Mont Fleuri-based Foresters registered their second consecutive league win in a week as they edged Northern Dynamo 1-0 at Stad Linite on Wednesday afternoon in a league encounter.

Northern Dynamo, who had lost last Friday on Praslin against LightStars, nearly went ahead in this match as early as the 3rd minute from a 25m free kick which Malagasy Rajamana curled into the top corner but Foresters goalkeper Kitson Cecile produced a magnificent one-handed block to stop the goal-bound shot and he reacted quickly to hold on to the loose ball which Northern Dynamo players claimed had crossed the line but referee Bernard Camille was not convinced.

Foresters then went on to slightly have the edge in this match and in the 9th minute, Francis Nourrice robbed Malagasy defender Andriy of the ball to set up Ugandan Tony Kizito but instead of squaring to the unmarked Martin Williams, he tried to squeeze his shot at the near post which goalkeeper Frank Moutoni smothered.

In the 33rd minute, Foresters again went close when Andriy again lost the ball this time to Foresters’ new recruit Nasser Muzamir who chipped the ball to his countryman Kizito who chest-trapped it but volleyed narrowly wide.

Kizito had the best chance of this half in the 39th minute from a quick long goal kick by goalkeeper Cecile which caught Northern Dynamo short of defenders as they had moved forward, but Kizito shot tamely at goalkeeper Moutoni for a 0-0 first half.

Foresters continued to probe in the second half for an opening and in the 55th minute, Kizito played a neat one-two with Muzamir before he slipped an inch-perfect through ball to Nourrice but he failed to control with only goalkeeper Moutoni to beat.

Two minutes later, Kizito released substitute Ryan Henriette who outsped the Northern Dynamo defence with his first touch of the match but instead of crossing to Nourrice he went for goal and his near post was blocked by goalkeeper Moutoni.

Foresters finally broke the deadlock in the 66th minute after some brilliant approach play by Williams to thread a pass to Nourrice who steamed down the left and delivered a superb telling cross which was rammed home by Kizito at the near post for a 1-0 lead as he grabbed his fourth goal in two matches.

Northern Dynamo responded in the 83rd minute from Marcus Maria’s free kick which was met by Rajamana’s header but the ball ended onto the crossbar with goalkeeper Cecile having the danger covered.

On the stroke of fulltime, Kizito almost scored a sensational goal with a spectacular overhead kick from Malagasy captain Leonard Besabotsy’s free kick which flew agonisingly wide.

Henriette also should have killed off the contest in the 91st minute from a beautiful cross field pass from Williams but he made a meal of his shot when he was clean through but it did not matter as they registered their second league win after thrashing Anse Reunion last Saturday and their coach Bryan Bastienne was quite satisfied with the team’s performance.

“We are showing good progress and I’m quite satisfied with the performance as we keep improving though today we started slowly as we are integrating new players to the team and they are still adapting,” Foresters trainer Bastienne explained to Sports NATION.

As for his counterpart Cliff Nolin, he felt his team need to be more combative and more effective in attack to win matches.

“We made a good start to this match but we did not perform well in the offensive part and lacked combativity as we were always second best in duels and we need to work on our weaknesses,” coach Nolin Sports NATION.
