President Faure meets new CEPS chairman |03 April 2018

President Danny Faure has met the new chairman of the Citizens Engagement Platform Seychelles (CEPS), Jude Fred, to congratulate him on his new appointment.

The meeting was also an opportunity to discuss with him the government’s support to a memorandum of understanding signed in February.

The MoU, signed by Mr Fred and Vice-President Vincent Meriton on behalf of government, is for the civil society and government to work together in different areas where CEPS can also step in and work in areas where the government cannot.

Mr Fred was elected chairman on March 17.

CEPS was created on November 8, 2014 through a dissolution and establishment vote by the General Assembly of the Liaison Unit of Non-Governmental Organisations of Seychelles (LUNGOS). LUNGOS had been in existence for 25 years. It regroups together all non-governmental organisations with the aim of working together for social change and development and also act as a platform to support them in the work that they do.

Mr Fred said the vision is to get the society engaged in the development of the country and their mission is to reach out to all other non-governmental organisations to join CEPS so that they can work together for the common good of the country.

“When many movements join together it creates a bigger impact. By putting their resources together and through their projects, they can get funding locally or internationally and projects can be accomplished on a larger scale,” Mr Fred said.
