The first ambassador of the Republic of Colombia to Seychelles, Maria Eugenia Correa, yesterday presented her credentials to President Danny Faure at State House.

Ambassador Correa has served in 14 countries and is based in Pretoria, South Africa.

Regarding her meeting with President Faure various topics on bilateral cooperation between the two countries were discussed, especially on security which she said her country has great experience in.

“We discussed several matters in the framework of South-South cooperation. We talked about security because Colombia has great experience in policing, training especially with regards to the control of drugs, pirates not only on land but in the air and at sea,” Ambassador Correa said.

She suggested to the president that they work together in that particular area as the Colombian police is considered to be the best trained ones in the world in these matters,” she said.

Another possibility of cooperation is the prevention of breast cancer among women.

“Colombia has very good programmes in this area and we are interested to work together with Seychelles in that field,” she added.

Education and maritime security were also discussed as she said both countries face the same problem.

“We have two oceans – the Atlantic and Pacific -- and we face the same problem in drug trafficking on high seas,” said Ambassador Correa.

She added a proposed memorandum of understanding (MoU) was delivered to President Faure which she said if Seychelles agrees to it Colombia can organise training programmes for our country in the least possible delay.
