63-year-old Nadege Songoire wins brand new Toyota Avanza car

Sixty-three-year-old Nadege Songoire of Les Mamelles has been presented with a brand new Toyota Avanza, star prize of a lottery organised by the Rotary Club of Victoria.

Mrs Songoire, along with the other winners, were presented with their prizes in a

ceremony held on Tuesday afternoon at the Golden Plate restaurant, Roche Caiman.

Mrs Songoire was presented with the keys of the seven-seater vehicle by Dinesh Raghavan, the sales manager of Abhaye Valabhji.

Present at the prize-giving ceremony were the Rotary Club president Charlie Ng Peng Cheun, club members and sponsors.

Mrs Songoire’s winning ticket was purchased in Market Street by his 79-year-old companion, Yvon Cadeau, one week prior to the draw.

She said that as she doesn’t know how to drive, they have decided to sell the car. This was her first lottery prize she had ever won in her life.

“Yvon bought two tickets, one for each of us, and mine was the lucky one. I am very happy and I would like to thank God and him for winning this prize,” said a delighted Mrs Songoire.

The Toyota Avanza, sponsored by Abhaye Valabhji, was granted duty concession by the government.

The first prize, a return ticket to Mauritius plus R5,000 cash sponsored by Vijay Construction, was won by Ghislaine Henriette of Mont Buxton.

Vipin of Laxon Plaza, Mont Fleuri won the second prize of R10,000 sponsored by Eden Island while Zarah Pierre of Cascade took the third prize -- a Samsung Galaxy S8 with six months 5GB data sponsored by Airtel.

Among the fifteen winners of the different prizes, the youngest is one-year-old Rychael Labonte from Glacis, who won the seventh prize of R6000 cash.

A total of 25,000 tickets were sold at R15 each and some R375,000 were collected. All proceeds will go towards community projects planned by the club for 2018-2019.

The Rotary Club has over the years undertaken several projects in health care, education, among others, at community level.

The lottery draw took place on March 14 at the Seychelles Trading Company (STC) Hypermarket and according to Mr Ng Peng Cheun, the ticket sales were lower this year compared to 35,000 sold last year

He thanked the winners and members of the public who purchased tickets, the sponsors and Rotary Club members for contributing towards a good cause.
