Two Indian naval ships to visit |20 April 2018

 

Two Indian naval ships -- the INS Trikand, a Teg Class Frigate and the INS Mumbai, a Delhi Class Destroyer, will be visiting Port Victoria from April 21 to April 24,  2018.

During their stay in Port Victoria, the commanding officers and ships’ staff will hold interactions with various authorities from the government of Seychelles and the Seychelles People’s Defence Forces (SPDF).

The ships’ officers and crew will also participate in several sporting, cultural and charitable activities during their stay in Seychelles.

INS Trikand (F51), commanded by Captain Upal Kundu, is the third ship of ‘Teg’ Class of Guided Missile Frigates. The ship was commissioned into the Indian Navy on June 29, 2013 in Kaliningrad, Russia. The warship has a displacement of 4,035 tonnes with a maximum speed of 32 knots.

The INS Mumbai (D-62), commanded by Captain Amit Srivastava, is the third ship of the Delhi Class of Guided Missile Destroyers. She was built at Mazagon Dock Limited (India) and was commissioned into the Indian Navy on January 22, 2001.

The ship has a displacement of 6,200 tonnes and a maximum speed of 32 knots. Both ships are part of the Indian navy’s Western Fleet based in Mumbai, India.

Equipped with a versatile range of sensors, these ships can effectively undertake ocean surveillance, monitor sea lines of communications, offshore assets and escort duties.

While in Seychelles, the ships will be docked at Ile du Port, Perseverance and will be open to visitors on Sunday, April 22, 2018 from 11am to 3pm. All are cordially invited.
