Seychelles Hospital Nouvobanq donates new set of instruments to boost spine surgery |21 April 2018

A set of different instruments and implants essential when carrying out lumbar spine surgeries was handed over to the Seychelles Hospital by Nouvobanq in a short ceremony yesterday morning.

Nouvobanq’s board chairperson Gafoor Yakub handed over samples of the instruments to the chief executive of the Health Care Agency (HCA), Dr Danny Louange, in the presence of Health Minister Jean-Paul Adam, the bank’s chief executive Ahmad Saeed, the special advisor to the Minister for Health, Dr Loren Reginald, key health management and surgical staff.

Worth some R800,000 these instruments are considered vital when treating spinal traumas especially with the rise in road traffic accidents as well as industrial accident cases.

Speaking before the handover, Mr Yakub said it is always a great pleasure for the bank to hand over an important piece of equipment to the health ministry.

He noted that the set of instruments for lumbar spine surgery is very important and special.

Lumbar surgery refers to any type of surgery in the lumbar spine, or lower back, between one or more of the L1-S1 levels.

“We understand that the aim of the lumbar spine surgery is to reduce pain, correct spinal deformity and improve stability and ability. So, we are hopeful that it will help in carrying out operation on people who have been involved in accidents and suffering from disc compression,” Mr Yakub pointed out.

He went on to note that for the past couple of years Nouvobanq has been honoured to sponsor such important medical instruments through its corporate social responsibility proceeds.

Mr Yakub highlighted that the bank has performed very well under Mr Saeed and that it is therefore only fitting that as a local bank, Nouvobanq plays its part and gives back to society by helping towards the wellbeing of our people.

He reaffirmed Nouvobanq’s commitment and readiness to continue helping the Ministry of Health in the years to come.

For his part, Dr Danny Louange, expressing the ministry’s gratitude for such important donations from one of its sincere partners, affirmed that through this partnership Nouvobanq has helped move spine surgery to a higher level.

He noted that last year the bank donated a set of cervical spine instruments and implants.

“Together with this new set of instruments they will boost our capacity to deal with cases of spine surgeries which are very common not only among locals but visitors to our country and these instruments are essential for emergency surgeries,” Dr Louange pointed out.
