PUC continues repair work on La Digue undersea cables |24 April 2018
The Public Utilities Corporation (PUC) has announced that La Digue residents will still be experiencing interruptions in electricity supply today and tomorrow, April 25.
This is due to a fault on the undersea cable which serves the island and which is connected from Ile Eve on Praslin and passes through Round Island (Ile Ronde)
The damage to the cable was caused by rough seas during high tides on Saturday.
PUC stated that different areas on La Digue will be affected with the electricity interruptions at different times, and further added that the schedule will continue until the problem is resolved.

This schedule is based on a load shedding programme to avoid excessive load or overload on the cable which is still functioning.
PUC has further advised consumers to reduce their electricity consumption as much as possible to also lessen the pressure on that cable.
Meanwhile, PUC yesterday brought the underwater transmission cable needed for the repair works to Ile Ronde.
To avoid future damages during similar tidal movements as seen on Saturday, the new cables will be installed in an area that has been selected and deemed as safe.
