President Danny Faure yesterday met the British high commissioner Caron Röhsler at State House to share Seychelles’ participation at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2018, held in London recently.

Both President Faure and HC Röhsler discussed the meeting, security issues, Prince Charles’ accession as the head of CHOGM, meeting with members of the Royal family and the possibility of a Royal family visit to Seychelles.

President Faure is back in the country after leading a delegation with 53 other member states to discuss matters of the Commonwealth at CHOGM 2018, hosted by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth 11 and the British Prime Minister, Theresa May.

President Faure shared some photo souvenirs he took with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth 11, and with other dignitaries from the 53 CHOGM member states and which were published in the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph.

President Faure also addressed the Commonwealth Youth Forum and the Commonwealth Business Forum at CHOGM 2018, of which he briefed HC Röhsler and also talked about his bilateral meetings on security issues which will be further discussed between both countries.

“We talked about co-operation on security since we already have good co-operation in a numbers of areas such as assistance to the police and have been solid partners in maritime security for many years,” HC Röhsler said.

Queen Elizabeth opened up two of her palaces for visits by the visiting heads of state during the meeting which was seen as a rather special and rare occasion especially since this was her last tenure to host a CHOGM meeting.

HC Röhsler said that in her discussion with President Faure, they talked on the possibility of a visit by members of the Royal Family to experience some Seychelles’ hospitality.
