Ceps, SCCI discuss way forward |26 April 2018

The relationship between the Citizens Engagement Platform Seychelles and the Seychelles Chamber of Commerce and Industry is set to develop further and reach a new height.

This follows the meeting between Citizens Engagement Platform Seychelles (Ceps) newly elected chairperson Jude Fred and Seychelles Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) chairman Oliver Bastienne who was also recently elected into the post after serving as acting chairperson.

The meeting took place at the SCCI headquarters at Providence.

According to a communiqué from Ceps, the meeting is in line with both Ceps’ and SCCI’s strategic objectives to cultivate existing relationships with partners and explore relevant new partnerships.

The two leaders discussed lengthily on national issues and how both organisations can collaborate in tackling national issues.

Mr Bastienne personally thanked Ceps and Citizens Democracy Watch Seychelles (CDWS), the local observer group who was contracted to organise the election for the SCCI chairperson during the body’s last annual general meeting.

The two leaders concluded that the relationship must be formalised through a memorandum of understanding which clearly outlines the basic principles of engagement and the way forward. Ceps serves a membership of 99 civil society organisation members and SCCI has a total of more than 1,000 registered businesses.

In attendance were Ceps chief executive Michel Pierre and SCCI secretary general Iouana Pillay who agreed to work together to develop the strategic partnership document.
