SDA launches second Impact Seychelles under ‘Getting Connected’ theme |26 April 2018

The launch ceremony of the second phase of the Seventh Day Adventist mission’s nationwide ImpactSeychelles initiative

The Seventh Day Adventist mission launched the second phase of its nationwide ImpactSeychelles initiative at the International Conference Centre Seychelles on Tuesday night.

This youth-led initiative makes its debut on Mahe under the theme ‘Getting Connected’ after it was initially kick started on Praslin in December 2017.

It was the principal secretary for early childhood, primary and secondary education, Dr Odile Decommarmond, who received the honour of officially launching the event.

Also present were the principal secretary for culture Cecile Kalebi, chairperson of the Citizen Engagement Platform Seychelles (Ceps) Jude Fred, president of the Seventh Day Adventist Mission Pastor Ellsworth Baxen amongst other guests.

Impact Seychelles is geared towards making a difference in the society by impacting others, fostering resilient youths and building stronger communities for young people to thrive in. Through this the mission is hoping to alleviate and prevent social ills and addictions in the country.

“We command the Seventh Day Adventists church for their total involvement and passion in this mass mobilisation and educating of the youth and the community as a whole,” remarked PS Decomarmond while launching the programme.

She stated that Impact Seychelles programme shows the effectiveness of partnership between different organisations in serving the community based needs and promoting the sense of unity for the betterment of Seychelles.

“It is my honour to be part of the Impact Seychelles Programme for 2018 after a successful launch of the first phase of this initiative on Praslin for the inner islands last year,” she further stated as she formally committed the government’s commitment to help all efforts pertaining to similar initiatives.

“When young people are mentored, supported and coached in a surrounding such as this one filled with high positive influences they need to build resilience, reciprocate and reflect on the positivity learned while celebrating friendship in all its aspects.”

The chairperson of Ceps, Jude Fred, also commended the mission for its endeavours towards promoting the wellbeing of the society.

The opening ceremony of Impact Seychelles included various presentations, songs and praises. Approximately 250 participants are expected to attend the five days of conference and community service projects.

The four community service projects planned includes wall painting around the School for the Exceptional Child, cleaning at the Anse Boileau Home for the Elderly, health screening and education programme in Anse Etoile and maintenance of the school playground at Beau Vallon.
