New childminding services directory for Praslin, La Digue |30 April 2018

People seeking childminding services on Praslin and La Digue can now easily locate them on the two islands thanks to a newly launched directory.

The aim of having the directory is to promote childminding services and provide parents with a greater choice of quality, affordable and flexible child care support services.

The new directory was launched by the Institute of Early Childhood Development (IECD) during a ceremony to open the institute’s new documentation facility on Friday afternoon. The directory advertises only childminding services registered with the IECD. It features the names of childminders, their background, experiences, location of services, date of registration, opening hours, services and activities they offer.

The names of nine childminders feature in the directory and they are Emilie Lesperance, Sandra Lesperance, Sabrina Pointe, Odile Freminot (Baie Ste Anne), Livianne Farabeau, Janine Lesperance (Grand Anse Praslin) and Jeline Monnaie, Martha Gresle and Elisette Bibi (La Digue).

During the launch ceremony, a copy of the directory was handed over to all stakeholders present. The chief executive of IECD, Shirley Choppy, said a similar version will be developed for childminding services on Mahe. 

The concept for the directory came about through an initiative of the institute to empower staff members to work independently, to develop skills and abilities in project management leading to fruition and to increase productivity. Besides their daily responsibilities as technicians at the IECD, each member of staff has to conceptualise a project and formulate an annual operating plan (AOP) for implementation.

It was senior compliance officer from the regulatory affairs section at the IECD, Lianette Morel, who worked on the Praslin and La Digue project. The directories will be available at the district administrators’ offices on both islands, at the IECD head office among other places or online at www.iecd.gov.sc.
