Karting Penlac chief hands over R30,000 cheque to SKA |05 May 2018

Used karts will be procured for the United Kingdom thanks to cheque for R30,000 received by the Seychelles Karting Association from Penlac.

It was Penlac chief executive A G Yakub who handed over the cheque to Seychelles Karting Association (SKA) chairperson Liza Rene-Cosgrow in the presence of her executive committee and some drivers last Saturday at the Champions Park Raceway, Roche Caïman.

Mr Yakub said: “Today is a beautiful sunny Saturday, an excellent day for karting and racing. It is a great pleasure for Penlac to be making this cash donation to the Seychelles Karting Association via the National Sports Council. We usually tend to provide assistance to SKA and others under our CSR proceeds by supplying them with our paint products instead of making a monetary donation.

“This time we have opted to provide a cheque because we feel it will give some support to the chairperson, Liza Rene-Cosgrow, and her executive committee to start procuring a few used karts from the UK for use on the race track. It’s important to be pragmatic and plan ahead. Over time, we expect the membership of the SKA will be increasing as more and more kids take an interest in go-karting and so, there will be a need for more karting vehicles”.

Mr Yakub added: “We have started a new calendar year and already time is moving fast. This is a good opportunity for businesses that pay CSR tax to consider contributing towards good causes like promoting karting in Seychelles. Why? Because in karting, you will find that the parents always attend the physical events and they take a keen interest in their children’s extra-curricular activities and their personal training and development. I therefore call on the other sponsors of SKA to also join us at Penlac in supporting the association in advancing their goals for 2018 and beyond”.

On behalf of the Seychelles Karting Association, chairperson Liza Rene-Cosgrow thanked Penlac for its valuable contribution of R30,000.

“Penlac has been a good supporter of our sport for a few years now with supply of paints and accessories to support with track maintenance. However, this financial contribution has now taken the association one step closer to purchasing new lot of karts for the sport. Penlac is a fine example of a good working relationship and support towards smaller sports in Seychelles and its willingness to give a helping hand to grow the sport for the future generations of this country. Again, a big thank you to Mr Yakub and the Penlac family,” said Mrs Rene-Cosgrow.

The association has said it hopes to have a batch of karts by end of the year and has already identified a lot that is available.

“We shall be entering negotiations for purchase and shipping, so we are appealing to any other organisations that are willing to support us with funds to complete this project to please come forward,” added Mrs Rene-Cosgrow.
