Football: Cosafa Cup 2018 - 20-man squad named |17 May 2018

Seychelles senior football team coach Gavin Jeanne has named the final 20-man squad for this year’s 18th Council of Southern African Football Associations (Cosafa) Cup in the Limpopo province, South Africa.

The squad comprise 19 players who play in the local league and one foreign-based player, Carlos Siméon who features for Ware FC, a member of the Isthmian League North Division in England.  

Drawn in group A for the annual competition which will take place from May 27 to June 9, Seychelles will depart on May 23 and will play their first match against the Comoros on Sunday May 27.

They will face Madagascar in their second game on Tuesday May 29 before playing Mozambique in their third and final group A match on Thursday May 31.

Group B is made up of powerhouse Angola, Botswana, Mauritius and Malawi. The winners will proceed to the quarterfinals where they will meet Zimbabwe who are the defending champions having claimed a record fifth Cosafa Cup title in South Africa last year.

The other two quarterfinals will see four-time winners Zambia clash with Namibia and Lesotho take on Swaziland.

Matches will be played at three venues – Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, Seshego Stadium as well as the New Peter Mokaba Stadium. The final takes place on Sunday June 9.

The team have been playing friendly matches against first division teams locally and will travel to Praslin for a match against a selection of foreign players on Saturday at 4.30pm at Stad Amitié.

The following is the list of players who have been chosen to play in this year’s Cosafa Cup.

Goalkeepers: Jerome Dingwall (Red Star Defence Forces), Alvin Michel (St Michel), Kitson Cecile (Foresters)

Defenders: Yannick Manoo (St Michel), Benoit Marie (Côte d’Or), Jones Joubert (Côte d’Or), Damian Maria (St Louis), Warren Mellie (Red Star Defence Forces), Gervais Saminadin (La Passe FC)

Midfielders: Kiren Sinon (Northern Dynamo), Andy Brioche (Côte d’Or), Colin Esther (Côte d’Or), Rashim Padayachy (The Lions), Gerick Vidot (St Louis), Carlos Siméon (Ware FC), Gervais Waye-Hive (St Louis)

Strikers: Renick Esther (LightStars), Elijah Tamboo (St Louis), Karl Hall (St Louis), Leroy Coralie (St Michel).

The players will be accompanied by coach Gavin Jeanne, assistant coach James Barra, goalkeeping coach Nelson Sopha, physiotherapist Sam Moses, manager Davis Khan and head of delegation Lewis Madeleine.
