Obituary of Andiana Hoareau |19 May 2018

Another tourism pioneer leaves us……

A popular hotelier and restaurateur, 84-year-old Andiana Hoareau née Sandapin of Beau Vallon, passed away last Sunday following a long illness.

Mrs Hoareau, better known as Madam Hooper, was well known for the launch of the Café Royal bar and restaurant in the Michel Building on Revolution Avenue, which attracted both visitors and tourists.

Together with her husband and family they owned and ran the Manresa Guest House at Anse Etoile.

In the late seventies after having faced political difficulties here, she and her family moved to the United Kingdom where they started a restaurant business.

She was an avid activist for the return of democracy to her country of birth and following the re-introduction of multi-party politics in Seychelles, the family came back and settled at Beau Vallon where they managed the Augerine Hotel.

Mrs Hoareau, who was a widow, leaves behind eight children - four boys and four girls.

Her funeral service will take place on Tuesday May 22 at 2pm at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
