Industrial Estates Authority discusses Providence land allocation with contractors |24 May 2018

The Federation of Organised Employers Entrepreneurs Contractors Association of Seychelles(FOEECAS) with the General Employers Trade Union of Seychelles, (GETUS), on Tuesday held a meeting with the  Industrial  Estates Authority (PIA), to discuss a proposal to review the actual policyfor the industrial land allocation at Providence that at present is only for contractors.

The meeting was also aimed to integrate all local entrepreneurs to use the land available to develop businesses but not for residential purposes.

Present at the meeting were the chief executive of IEA, Lucy Athanasius , Ralph Ernesta, the association’s chairperson and Donald Monnaie, vice-chair of GETUS and other committee members.

Following the meeting, GETUS said that the IEA management received the proposal in a positive way and there will be a possibility to review the policy.

The second point discussed was about the various cases where one person/company were allocated more than one  plot of land, something which is not supposed to be allowed.

The IEA management responded by explaining that at present there is an audit to identify any discrepancies and to have a better view of the actual situation.

The third point discussed focused on some plots of landwhich have been allocated for some time now but still not being developed. The GETUS committee therefore suggested that such plots should be identified, revoked and re-assigned to entrepreneurs who are ready and willing to develop the land for business purposes and not residential.

The response from IEA said that this will be sorted out once the audit will be completed.

The fourth point was in relation to President Danny Faure’s state of the nation address earlier this year whereby he announced there will be allocation of plots of land for contractor class 2only in Providence.

The committee inquired on the time frame and this project will be realised and finalised once the subdivision of the land has been carried out.
