Cycling Fadi’s memorial tour kicks off 2018 season |26 May 2018

Fadi’s Memorial Tour kicks off the 2018 cycling season in Seychelles this weekend and cyclists will take part in three races for the inaugural event.

Young cyclist Fadi Confiance passed away on March 18, 2018 after a short illness.

He was just 21 years old and had started making a name for himself on the local stage as he won the cadet champion title, the SeaShell Travel mid-year tour after accumulating the fastest time in the three stages in July 2014 and the Mohan Shopping Centre-sponsored New Year’s Tour in January 2015.

He also trained at the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Continental Centre based in Potchefstroom, South Africa.

In August 2015, he represented Seychelles at the 9th Indian Ocean Island Games in Reunion and joined forces with Chris Germain, Dominic Arissol and Ahmad Arrisol to win the team time trial bronze medal with the third fastest time of 1 hour 07 minutes 41 seconds (1h07:41).

Fadi even took part in the African Championship and Tour de Maurice, and he went to Tanzania to do trials to join semi-professional teams.

The first race on this weekend’s Fadi’s Memorial Tour is a 91km road race today at 2.30pm and the starting point is at Stad Linite.

Two races have been scheduled for tomorrow. At 6.30am starting at Roche Caïman, there will be a 12km individual time trial followed at 1pm with the third stage – a 79km circuit race – starting at Cascade.

Meanwhile, the Seychelles Cycling Federation has also released the dates for four races during the month of June.

Race 4 on Saturday June 2 at 2.30pm – 99km road race

Race 5 on Sunday June 3 at 6.30am – 24km individual time trial
