SNYC launches executive committee to spearhead national ‘Values’ programme |28 May 2018

The Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC) has partnered with stakeholders to form an executive committee to strengthen and intensify the impact of the National Values Programme.

The 15 executive committee members are from different organisations such as the Ministry of Education, the Seychelles People’s Defence Forces (SPDF), SNYC, the National Council for Children (NCC), the National Assembly, the Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation (SBC) and the Ministry of Family Affairs, among others.

The official launch of the committee was held symbolically as an act of kindness to a group of vulnerable people in our society.

The ceremony took place at the National Youth Centre, English River on Friday morning.

The objective of the programme is to instill in young people the values which are considered as noble so as to create positive and creative attitudes.

It is also expected that these values will help foster leadership skills development and character building for stronger interpersonal relationship which will in turn reflect positively on the youth, their families, communities and the country in general.

It was the chief executive of the SNYC, Alvin Laurence, and the SNYC’s counselor,  Beryl Dodin, who officially launched the executive committee to spearhead the National Values Programme.

Miss Dodin stated that such a committee will reinforce the values programme.

“The executive committee will reinforce our values programme whereby each member will have a different task to organise different sessions to help vulnerable people. But first we need to create an action plan, to be able to deliver a wonderful service to the community,” she said.

The ceremony also featured poems by Chantal Herminie, songs by Jones Camille and uplifting testimonies by parents whose children are being affected by drugs.

At the end of the ceremony, the administrator of the night shelter at North East Point, Maria Doudee, received a generous donation of a Sharp LED TV from ISP and clothes from Spendless Boutique for residents of the night shelter.

The night shelter is being used to house a dozen people who have been picked up sleeping on the streets due to complicated social cases.
