CJ Twomey to take leave during hearing by tribunal of inquiry |08 June 2018

Chief Justice Mathilda Twomey will take leave during the hearing by the tribunal of inquiry set up in terms of Article 134 of the Constitution to investigate complaints made by suspended Judge Durai Karunakaran against her, according to a communiqué from the Judiciary of Seychelles.

The tribunal will commence its inquiry on July 30, 2018 for an expected period of two weeks.

The communiqué adds that “the Judiciary wishes to inform the public that the tribunal of inquiry is a separate process from the courts and is administered by a separate secretariat set up for that purpose by the Constitutional Appointments Authority.

It adds that the hearing by the tribunal of inquiry will not affect the work of the judiciary or of the office of the chief justice.

Arrangements have been made to ensure the continued smooth running of the courts and the communiqué adds that the judiciary remains committed to achieving its strategic objectives and will continue to work towards them.
