Two men remanded over importation of drugs |12 June 2018

The Magistrate Court has remanded two men -- a Malawian national and a Seychellois – for 14 days in connection with the offence of importation of drugs.

The unemployed 26-year-old Malawian national was arrested on Thursday June 7, 2018 by officers of the Anti-Narcotics Bureau (ANB) at the Seychelles International Airport in possession of approximately 4.7 kilogrammes of what is suspected to be herbal cannabis.

The Malawian man was travelling from Malawi on board the Ethiopian Airline via Addis Ababa.

Later on the same day the Seychellois, a 40-year-old resident of Les Mamelles employed as a security officer at a hotel in the north of Mahé, was arrested by ANB officers in relation to the case for the offence of conspiracy to import a controlled drug.

They will both reappear before the court on Friday June 22, 2018.

The ANB recognises and thanks the immigration and customs officers who participated in the arrest of these two men.
