Volleyball: National leagues - Swimblue Pals, Arsu grab fourth wins of the trot |13 June 2018

Reigning women’s first division winners Arsu and men’s top flight defending champions Swim Blue Pals were in action on Saturday at the Palais des Sports where they extended their winning streak to four.

In a battle between the top two teams of the women’s first division, Arsu were able to come out on top against Cascade.

Cascade had made a good start of the season themselves by winning their first two games and they looked like real title contenders, however this was not enough in their bid to beat league leaders Arsu. Arsu came into the match with real determination, grabbing the first set 25-17. They went into the second set with the same form, winning it 25-14 to make it 2-0.

Cascade seemed to have no response for Arsu’s continuous attacks as they ended losing the third set 19-25. With a 3-0 win, Arsu stretched their winning run to four games and at the same time ended Cascade’s win streak.

Friends and Constance Ephelia also won their matches on 3-0 scores.

Friends faced off against Breakaway in what seemed like a mismatch all the way up to the final set. Friends took the first two sets easy 25-12 and 25-14. However, Breakaway went into the third determined not to let Friends sweep them aside, but they were unable to withstand opponents’ attack and Friends took the set 25-21 for a final score of 3-0.

Constance Ephelia had a breeze, winning the first set 25-11 against opponents Mont Fleuri. In the second set, Mont Fleuri upped the tempo, but it just wasn’t enough as Constance Ephelia won it 25-20 before claiming the third 25-13 for a 3-0 score.

Three men’s first division matches featured on last weekend’s programme.

Defending champion and league leaders Swimblue Pals faced off against Beau Vallon in a much-anticipated affair as both teams went into the match unbeaten.

Beau Vallon were able to pull away with an early 25-23 first set win, but Swimblue Pals returned for the second set more determined to grab a 25-18 victory to equalise at 1-1.

Swimblue Pals then won the third and fourth sets 25-22 and 25-17 for a final score of 3-1 to bring their points tally to a maximum 12 in four matches played.

Former champions Premium Spikers grabbed a 3-0 win against Ton Neo but the scores were very close in the first two sets – 26-24 and 26-24.

Premium Spikers then grabbed the third set 25-15.

As for Arsu Boyz they finished on the losing end against La Digue who picked up a 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-13) win.
